Born To Run at 40.!
Bruce Springsteen magnum opus is 40 today. To some a sublime classic. To other's. A great big pile of old cunt.!

Either way. It's an album everybody should listen to once in there life.

Everything is of its time, of course, so no surprise some of you geezers don't rate Brucie.

He's made a very significant contribution to music / rock & roll along the way, and has influenced many others.

Tunnel of Love is my favourite album.

It's easy to be a somebody when nobody is looking... much more difficult when your every move is watched by half the planet.

The boy done good.

Divides opinion but I think his stuff is hugely overrated.

It's always amazed me why some people think he's some sort of godlike genius but that's music I suppose...

The only song of his I like is "Because The Night" and that was sung by someone else.

Born in the USA that is.

Re: Born To Run at 40.!
Ronald Reagan referenced it one of his election campaigns thinking it was about how GREAT the USA is.
A bit like David Cameron liking Eton Rifles by The Jam.
Conservatives usually go astray when they try and pretend to like music. Or humour.

Born to Run is a fucking great album. Thunder Road stands out, being as it is one of the greatest songs ever written, but the whole album is superb.

Apparently 'Born in the USA' is a dig at the authorities

Wiki

The song was in part a tribute to Springsteen's friends who had experienced the Vietnam War, some of whom did not come back; it also protests the hardships Vietnam veterans faced upon their return from the war.

The song's narrative traces the protagonist's working-class origins, induction into the armed forces, and disaffected return to the States. An anguished lyrical interlude is even more jolting, describing the fate of the protagonist's (literal or figurative) brother (in some recordings or live shows, the word brother is replaced with buddy):

He was born in the USA, apparently.

I can't see it needing a song written about it though. A not very good song, at that.

Overblown, overhyped American bullshit.
The bloke has done one, maybe two half decent songs in my opinion.
Fucking lemmings.
